The following are some general funeral guidelines for Christian Bereaved Families.

A.  What should I do, when Natural death at home, private hospital or nursing home

  • Call your family doctor or a doctor from the hospital / nursing home to obtain the Certificate of Cause of Death.

  • If there is no doctor in attendance, the deceased's next of kin can report the death in person to any neighbourhood police post or police station.  Bring along the deceased's I/C or passport and the informant's I/C.  The police will then arrange for an Inspecting Officer.

  • The Certificate of Cause of Death issued by the family doctor or some private hospital must be changed to the Certificate of Registration of Death; and the Permit to Cremate / Bury in any neighbourhood police post or at the Registry of Births and Deaths (SIR building).  Bring along the Certificate of Cause of Death, the deceased's I/C and the informant's I/C.

  • Call your church pastor to inform him / her of the death.

B.  What should I do, when Sudden death at home

  • The deceased's next of kin can report the death in person to any neighbourhood police post or police station.  Bring along the deceased's I/C or passport and the informant's I/C.  The police will then notify the Coroner and the deceased will be transported by police to the mortuary at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Singapore General Hospital.  The Certificate of Registration of Death will be issued during office hours.

  • Call your church pastor to inform him / her of the death.

  • The next of kin is to be at the Coroner's office at 8:00 am the following morning to explain the death occurrence.  Bring along all supporting medical documents and medicine consumed by the deceased before death.  The Coroner will then decide whether an autopsy is required to be performed on the deceased.

  • If no autopsy is required, the Certificate of Registration of Death with the Permit to Cremate / Bury will be issued by the attached Registrar.

  • If autopsy is required, the Certificate of Registration of Death and the Permit to Cremate / Bury will only be issued after the autopsy.
